Carleton University River Building by Moriyama & Teshima and GRC Architects

Architectural Photography of Carleton University River Building by Moriyama & Teshima and GRC Architects

Toronto Architect Firm Moriyama & Teshima commissioned us to photograph their latest joint venture with Ottawa’s GRC Architects: Carleton University’s River Building. This team had previously joined efforts on several projects including Carleton’s Canal Building, but most notably in one of Ottawa’s architectural landmarks: the Canadian War Museum. Moriyama & Teshima were also part of the team that gave Ottawa the beautiful Ismaili Imamat Delegation Building we featured on our blog a few months back.

The $55-million River Building was designed to be landmark and icon of the University’s campus. It boasts an impressive facade overlooking the Rideau River. A three-storey atrium with a large south-facing window and open air patio offer expansive views across the river to Vincent Massey Park. The building was designed to meet a high level of sustainability, by incorporating a bio wall, a green roof, and sustainable design/construction practices. It is also home to an impressive 400-seat theatre  for large international presentations and for Film Studies.
