Yoga Warfare

Strength, flexibility and grace are world rarely uttered to describe me (Younes speaking here), except may be to say that I have none of them. Which is why this project Amanda and I have been pursuing for the last few months keeps me shaking my head more and more each time. You see, we seek these super hardcore yogis around town and take them to unusual places to do their thing. Then we shoot them…So these ladies (gentlemen are welcome too), do things with their bodies I can’t even wrap my head around, let alone actually attempt.

We found Bethany through a mutual friend, Kym, who has photographed her as part of her 100 Strangers project (see here). When we approached her about our idea to do some yoga at the famed cold war relic known as the Diefenbunker, she was totally onboard. Good thing we didn’t tell her that the heating system at the bunker was shot, because it was cold out there (to our defence, we didn’t know either and we still feel bad about it). Regardless, Bethany was the total class act and the ultimate trooper and didn’t take long to warm up and pull out the craziest moves out there…the images below are just a few of them. Yes, my head is still shaking…

  1. This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this with the world. We are always trying to find unique ways to position the museum and this is definitely a step outside of the box.

In regards to the cold, our heating system isn’t shot. It doesn’t exist. 🙂 We don’t have a/c or heat we rely on the geo thermal effect to heat and cool the building and the blast tunnel is always freezing. Next time, you can bring a space heater and plug it in! We have a few on hand.

You should think of doing a shot in the Bank of Canada Vault once it reopens in the summer. 🙂

    Thanks again!
